Manufactured from ASTM B221, 6063 or 6061 alloy, Aluminum Bar Grating is available in four distinct product types. Bearing bar spacings range from 19/16” (1-3/16”) to 7/16” on center and cross bars at 4” or 2” on center.

Aluminum Bar Grating products are available in standard mill finish. Optional anodizing, chemical cleaning, or powder coated finishes are available for highly corrosive or architectural applications.

Types of Aluminum Bar Grating

• Type “SG” Swage Locked Aluminum Bar Grating

The most widely used Aluminum Bar Grating, type SG rectangular bar, provides crisp lines.  Bearing bars are available with standard plain or optional serrated or On Grip surfaces.  The cross bars are fully locked within the bearing bar, slightly below the top surface. 

• Type “SGI” Swage Locked I-Bar Aluminum Grating

Manufactured with highly efficient “I” shaped extruded bearing bars, type SGI aluminum grating carries the same load as 3/16” thick rectangular bar type SG grating.

• Type “SGF” Swaged Flush-Top Aluminum Grating

Manufactured with a unique, extruded cross bar that is flush with the top surface of the bearing bars, type SGF aluminum grating provides an enhanced walking surface for areas subject to continuous pedestrian traffic.

• Type “ADT” Aluminum Dovetail Pressure Locked Grating

Type ADT Aluminum Bar Grating have deep rectangular cross bars and are manufactured by inserting pre-punched bearing bars and cross bars into an “egg-crate” configuration and deforming the cross bars under intense hydraulic pressure. 

Aluminum Bar Grating 6061

The 6061 aluminum flat bar can be easily welded, machined and formed using hot and cold methods. It is an alloy that is made with silicon and magnesium. It is known for having the highest corrosion resistance of all the heat treated aluminums. It does however have lower strength than other heat treated aluminum alloys. The mechanical properties of the 6061 aluminum give it a wide range of mechanical properties. It can be welded easily and has great joining characteristics. It can be coated or have anodizing performed.

It’s common for the Aluminum Bar Grating 6061 to be used for rectifier parts, brackets, structural components, camera lens mounts, electrical fittings, marine fittings and components, and hinge pins. This product can be used in a wide variety of applications, making it a popular choice. In fact, it is used for structures that are heavy duty and require good strength-to-weight ratio and high corrosion resistance. When in the annealed condition, the Aluminum Bar Grating 6061 can be cold worked with no problem. Some of the ways this product can be formed include drilling, cutting, deep drawing, stamping, tapping and bending.
